Girl hospitalised with 'serious injuries' after being hit by pickup truck in Lancashire

An 11-year-old girl was rushed to hospital after being hit by a pickup truck in Bacup.

The girl was riding a kart when she was struck by a Ford Ranger pickup truck at the junction of Blackthorn Lane and Gordon Street at around 8.50pm yesterday (April 20).

She suffered serious leg injuries and was taken to Manchester Children’s Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the pickup truck, a man is 30s, from Bacup, was not injured.

The road was closed for more than four hours while accident investigators attended the scene.

Police are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Sgt Mick Belfield, of Lancashire Police’s Tactical Operations, said: "We are appealing for witnesses following a collision in Bacup which left an 11-year-girl with serious injuries.

"If you have any information or saw what happened, please contact us."
