Emergency services respond to crash near Rivington

Emergency services have rushed to the scene of a crash in Rivington, where a car has overturned on a country road.

Police have shut Rivington Road, between Rivington and Belmont, in both directions at 1.30pm, whilst ambulance and fire crews attend to casualties.

Pictures from the scene show a white car on its roof on an embankment next to the road.

Details on injuries are not available at this stage, but North West Ambulance Service has been approached for comment.

Motorists in the area are being asked to turn around by police, with traffic being diverted towards Bolton.

A police spokesman said: "Please avoid the area of Rivington Road, Belmont as the road is blocked due to emergency services attending an incident."
