Delays on M61 after van and two cars crash near Chorley

A van and two cars crashed on the M61 near Chorley, leading to severe delays this morning (Tuesday, February 2).

The southbound crash happened at around 7.45am and led police to close two lanes between junction 8 (A674 Millennium Way, Chorley) and Rivington Services.

Lane 2 reopened at around 8.40am, relieving some of the congestion, but lane 1 remained closed until 9.10am.

It caused severe delays with traffic queuing for around four miles from Botany Bay to the scene of the crash near Rivington Services, before clearing at around 9.30am.

The crash involved two cars and a van, but police have confirmed that no-one has been injured.
