M6 bridge painting junction 31 to junction 32

Overnight (9pm to 5am) maintenance, including repainting, of two bridges between junction 31 and junction 32 of the M6 started in June and is continuing. Work at Grange bridge has now finished with work on Hollins bridge starting last week. Both the northbound and southbound carriageways are reduced to one lane in each direction in the bridge location with a 50mph speed limit in place.

M6 junction 38 to 39

A £1.8m project is taking place to resurface the whole of the northbound carriageway between Tebay services and junction 39 at Shap. The work includes the replacement of road markings, reflective road studs and drainage gullies. As the work moves along the carriageway in phases, short sections will require round-the-clock lane closures and a 50mph speed limit. Some overnight slip road closures will also be needed when the work is passing Tebay services, junction 38 and junction 39. No work will be taking place over the late summer bank holiday.

A £3m rolling programme of work to renew road markings and reflective road studs along sections of the M6, A66 and A595 in Cumbria started in May and will last until September. The work will focus on sections of the M6 between Kendal and Carlisle, the A66 west of Cockermouth and along the A595 between Distington and Thornhill. Some overnight (8pm to 6am) lane or slip road closures and temporary traffic lights will be used.

M6 southbound from junction 42

A short, £500,000 project to repair a section of the motorway carriageway north of Southwaite services should be completed this weekend. The southbound carriageway will be closed from 10pm to 6am on Sunday night (July 26) between junction 42 and junction 41 to allow traffic management and a lane closure to be removed.

M6 junction 43 Eden Bridge

A £2m, three-month project to resurface sections of the northbound and southbound motorway carriageways around junction 43 and carry out bridge maintenance at the junction – replacing some 40 bridge joints – was completed on Sunday (July 19).

M55 junctions 1 to 3

Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are now in place along a short stretch of the motorway where a new junction (junction 2) is being constructed as part of Lancashire County Council’s Preston Western Distributor road project.

Major work has been done in the central reservation between junction 7 and junction 10 since February and is now entering the final phase which should see the scheme finish this month. A6/A6070 Borwick (preparation for A590 work)

On Monday, July 13, Highways England started three weeks of work on the local authority road network – at Burton roundabout west of the M6 near Borwick. Lane closures and a speed reduction will be in place around the clock. The work involves adjusting the junction between the A6 and A6070 so it can accommodate an occasional and emergency overnight diversion route for major resurfacing along the A590 between the M6 at junction 36 and Brettargh Holt roundabout which is taking place later this year.

A66 Temple Sowerby bypass

A £2m project to resurface the whole of the bypass and associated slip roads was completed on Friday, July 17 – a week earlier than planned. Until Friday, July 31, overnight (8pm to 6am) work will be taking place to remove all the traffic management including the contraflow system along the A66. During the overnight period there will be times when drivers will be held at traffic lights and led past the roadworks in convoy.

A585 Norcross junction

This project to transform the junction and provide safer, smoother and more reliable journeys was completed and opened to traffic last month. Work to remove the construction compound, provide landscaping and assess the operation of the new traffic lights is continuing.
