A major road in the Preston area will remain partly closed to traffic following a crash yesterday.

Part of the A59 Longton bypass will remain closed after vehicle, believed to be a lorry, hit a bridge in New Longton on Saturday lunchtime.

A Preston Police spokesman said: "Following the road traffic collision under the bridge at Chapel Park Road, part of the A59 will be closed until at least Monday.

"The southbound carriageway (towards Preston) is back open however part of the northbound carriageway (towards Southport) is closed until at least Monday.

"It will be closed between between the Anchor roundabout, Hutton & Gill Lane, Walmer Bridge. Chapel Park Road (which runs underneath the A59) will also remain closed."
