A59 Longton bypass reopens after vehicle hits bridge

The A59 was partially closed to traffic this morning (Monday, March 16, 2020) following a crash on Saturday.

The A59 southbound between Hutton and Walmer Bridge was closed after a vehicle, believed to be a lorry, hit the bridge in New Longton on Saturday lunchtime.

The stretch has since reopened to traffic, however, Chapel Park Road which runs under the A59 will remain closed.

An update from Lancashire County Council today, said: "The A59 at Longton has now fully reopened. It was closed on Saturday due to a bridge strike.

"Chapel Park Road which goes under the damaged bridge will remain closed with a diversion in place until it can be made safe."
