UPDATED: Flooding causes rail delays in Lancashire

Train travellers are facing delays and cancellations between Lancaster and Preston this morning due to flooding.

National Rail has warned commuters of 60-minute delays between Lancaster and Preston, predicted to last until.

It earlier blamed signalling problems but issued this statement at 9.15am: “Heavy rain has flooded the railway between Lancaster and Preston causing disruption to journeys between these stations. This is expected to continue until 12pm.

Trains may be delayed by up to 60 minutes or cancelled between Lancaster and Preston. Buses are supplementing trains between these stations.”

It said the following are affected:

• Northern between Carlisle / Barrow and Preston / Manchester Airport and also between Morecambe and Lancaster

• TransPennine Express between Edinburgh / Glasgow Central and Manchester Airport

• Virgin Trains between Edinburgh / Glasgow Central and London Euston.

It comes a day after passengers faced lengthy delays travelling between Lancashire, Scotland and London because of a derailed engineering train at Carnforth.
