Lancashire Police take action against driver who hit boy, 14, at Preston car meet
A 14-year-old boy who suffered a fractured skull when he was hit by a vehicle at a car meet in Preston has been discharged from hospital.
Lancashire Police said the boy was injured at around 9.50pm on Friday (January 30) at the Roman Way industrial estate in Preston.
Ambulance crews attended and the teenager was taken to hospital for treatment. He has since been discharged and is continuing his recovery at home, said police.
The driver was suspected of anti-social driving and has since been reported for driving without due care.
In a statement, the Force’s Roads Policing Unit Chief Inspector, John Jennings-Wharton, said: “Now we all know that car meet events can be a fun, social gatherings for those interested in cars. And that the vast majority of those attending behave in a completely safe and legal way.
“However, like in most things, there are some who decide to let the side down.
“Whilst I would not want to discourage anyone from attending car meets, please remember to respect the rules of the road and not put others at risk.
“I want to be clear. Anti-social driving, racing, or causing danger to other road users on public roads will not be tolerated.
“We will seek to prosecute the minority of drivers who are racing or driving anti-socially who in turn cause dismay for other road users and the wider communities who live close to these events.”
