Sgt Tony Beckett, of the Roads Policing Unit, added: “My thoughts first and foremost are with the injured man as he undergoes treatment in hospital for serious injuries.

“As we investigate the collision, we are appealing for witnesses and for anyone who was driving in the area around the time it happened and has dashcam footage, to contact us.

“If people have CCTV in the area, again we want you to come forward.

“There were a lot of people at the scene and if they left before speaking to our officers, we would like to hear from them.”
