A man has died in a crash involving a motorbike and a car in Leyland, say police.

UPDATE: Investigation after fatal crash in Leyland

Police say the 49 year-old motorcyclist, from Leyland, was taken to hospital where he sadly died a short time later.

A spokesman for the police said: "There was a collision between a Mini and a Suzuki motorcycle.

"The motorcyclist was taken to hospital, but was sadly pronounced dead a short time later."

Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Sgt Lee Harris from the Road Policing Unit said: “Firstly my thoughts are with the motorcyclist’s family at this incredibly sad and difficult time. They are being supported by specially trained officers.

“If you saw anything that you think could assist with our investigation, please get in touch with us.”

Dunkirk Lane was closed for several hours while accident investigation work took place.

The road reopened just before midnight.
