Firefighters used water from a pond and a hydrant nearby to feed a hose reel and jet which were used to extinguish the fire.

Meanwhile police advised residents of Goosnargh and Preston to close their doors and windows as smoke from the fire was travelling that way.

In a statement police said: “Rural Preston residents please be aware that we are currently assist Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service with a large fire in the Whittingham area.

“Officers have closed Brabiner Lane and the Longridge side of Cumeragh Lane whilst this is managed.

“We would advise residents in the Goosnargh village area to close doors & windows as a large amount of smoke is travelling in that direction.”
