Fire at derelict building in Preston
Firefighters were called to a blaze near a derelict building in Preston this morning.
When crews arrived at the scene in Avenham Terrace, they found that two cars were on fire close to the disused building.
Watch manager Neil Parkinson said: “We were called at 7.45am to a fire affecting a property.
“It was involving two vehicles adjacent to the property.
“The team, headed up by crew manager Robin Barker, took about 30 minutes to put out the fire.
“There was slight damage to the building and both cars were severely damaged.”
Firefighters used two breathing masks, two hose reels and 40 litres of foam to extinguish the blaze which affected the downpipe and door casting of the property.
No injuries were reported.
Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service believes that the fire is of suspicious origin and crews spent some time investigating the cause after it had been brought under control.
An investigation is now underway.
