Anger over loss of Preston's Orbit route

Preston Bus has announced it will operate the 180/280/X80 to Skipton seven days a week, without public subsidy.

The service is currently operated on behalf of Lacashire County Council, but was threatened with cancellation under major budget cuts.

The bus, which more than 250,000 passengers use each year, will operate on the same route seven days per week.

But Evening Post reader Concerned Olympian said: “The totally dreadful Preston Bus can do this, yet they sack the totally useful and profitable Orbit route, and they condem the residents of Ingol to a long walk to the local shops or the bus stop to get to town?”

Fulwood17 said: “Hang on, so Preston Bus are prepared to cater for people outside of Preston but beggar to those that live in Preston that rely on the already rubbish services that are due to be scrapped!”

Fenchwoody said: “This is good news for many passengers in East Lancashire and the Craven district of Yorkshire. The new timetable is as good as the Transdev one; Preston Bus will even run on Sundays and Bank Holidays.

Mr Rob said: “What a disgrace Preston Bus really are.

“They have cut a vital service in Preston, this being the orbital routes 88a and 88c.”

Preston Bus had previously said that the Preston Orbit service was stopped because traffic problems in the city meant it was impossible to run a reliable service.
