National Grid is replacing an old gas main with a new, hard-wearing plastic pipe and have closed Turpin Green Lane between the junctions of Hough Lane and King Street.

The road closure will be in place for four weeks and a diversion is in place.

Previous work in the 15 week scheme has already affected Hough Lane and School Lane, both of which were temporarily reduced to one lane.

Jenny Smith, 25, from Leyland said:“This is adding time onto my commute to work and extra time on to my journey home as I am having to take a diversion and it is causing traffic on King Street or I have to go a longer route down Bow Lane.

“We have already had long road closures on Hough Lane and School Lane and it is causing big disruption to people who live in town centre with busses being re-routed, traffic and longer journeys.

“I understand gas works are essential and it needs to be done, but surely this could be done in chunks over the year rather than straight after each other.”

A spokesman for National Grid said: “Before the work started, we visited the businesses in the area and will update them throughout the work. Compensation forms have also been provided to businesses if requested.”
