Bosses at S Ollerton Ltd, based at the Banks Industrial Estate in Ackhurst Road, plan to donate money to a range of causes based on how many tonnes of sand and gravel they sell.

Managing director Chris Langson said: “Cancer is an illness that has touched all of us at Ollerton’s over the years through either friends, colleagues or family members.

“Our aim for 2016 with this specific truck is to donate a percentage of the profits from every tonne the truck carries on a daily basis – which will run into several hundred pounds per month – to be donated to Cancer Research and other local cancer-related charities.

“The first charity to be supported will be Rosemere, based at the Royal Preston Hospital.”

The firm also lost its co-founder, John Robinson, to cancer, and Chris added: “The truck carries the name Kath Dressel, who is the mother of one of our office staff who is currently bravely fighting cancer.

“The more tonnes we sell, the more money we can donate to this worthwhile cause.”
