Time to glam up and relive golden years

If you were into glam rock you could be a gran by now '“ so get the gladrags out and head for Blackpool's Grand for a short but perfectly formed season of Solid Gold 70s on August 4, 11 and 25.

It’s more of a retro treat than a retreat and revives the golden age of pop with a talented cast performing glam rock greats, disco hits, power ballads and party anthems from Sweet, T Rex, Queen, Elton John, 10cc, David Essex, David Cassidy and ... well, need we go on?

Backed by a band whose members have performed with Mike Oldfield, Asia and Ultravox, the production takes audiences back to an age, says producer Michael Taylor, when 7.30pm on Thursday meant one thing – Top of the Pops.

Michael, who has also given us touring hits such as Magic of Motown and Thank You for the Music, says Solid Gold 70s is the ‘most fun production’ in his company’s 20-show roster.

“If, like me,” he says, “you have fond memories of Pan’s People and Eurovision, Luke Skywalker and Saturday Night Fever, Danny and Sandy, Dastardly and Muttley, this is the show for you.”

He promises theatregoers the most colourful poptastic times of their lives – and hopes they dress the part too, platforms, flares, cat suits, tank tops, boob tubes. Just park the Choppers and the Space Hoppers out front.
