Thug banned from going near old home

Terry Penzer, 26, formerly of Mead Avenue, Leyland, is due to be released from jail in a matter of weeks, but has already been handed a Criminal Behaviour Order for when he gets out.

He was jailed for 26 weeks for assault after an alcohol-fuelled domestic assault in which police say he tried to strangle his partner.

Officers said this is the latest in a ‘string of offences’ in which Penzer has caused nuisance and violence towards others, especially his former neighbours on Mead Avenue.

Officers from the Leyland Neighbourhood Policing Team were granted the order in Preston Magistrates Court when Penzer appeared on a video link from prison last week.

The conditions of the order, which will last for three years, include a ban on Penzer entering Mead Avenue or any property on the street.

He must also not engage in or threaten to engage in any conduct capable of causing alarm or distress to any person, in a public or private place, in Leyland.

The order also bans Penzer from being in possession of an open alcohol container in any public place.

Sergeant Mark Douglas, of Leyland police, said the force wanted to make sure the order was already in place ready for when Penzer was released from jail.

Sgt Douglas said: “The community have put their trust in us to try and sort this situation due to the amount of intimidation and threats of violence that this man has inflicted upon the community.

“We wanted a long term solution to protect the community and this order was the best way forward.

“We are pleased that the court has granted the CBO in order to protect our community.

“We just hope that Mr Penzer uses this experience to alter his behaviour.”

If Penzer breaches any of the conditions of the order he can be fined or sent to prison for up to five years.

If anyone witnesses Penzer breach the conditions following his release, police are urging people to call them on 101.
