The Lancashire pet cemetery that also accepts humans - and it's in demand
A pet cemetery in Lancashire now accepts humans - and the demand is rising.
So much so that Rossendale Pet Crematorium in Operation Street, Crawshawbooth, applied to the local council for an extension.
The cemetery, which was opened in 1967, already has permission for pet burials across the site, with a limited area with existing permission for both pet burial and the burial of human remains (ashes). Now bosses have been approved permission to amend an additional portion of the existing pet burial ground - 5,215 sq. metres - for both pet and human remains.
No other changes were sought and the owners insist that no human cremations take place on the site. A letter to the council states: “There is no new development proposed as part of this application and the addition of the burial of human remains will not significantly impact the way the site is currently utilised.”

No representations were made by neighbours and Rossendale Borough Council planning officers said the proposed development was acceptable in terms of visual amenity, neighbour amenity and highway safety, and therefore was in accordance with the Policies of the Rossendale Local Plan and the NPPF.
The site is currently accessible 24 hours a day and employs 16 staff. This is not envisaged to change.
