Stonyhurst opens doors to allow Ribble Valley children the chance to train in tennis dome
Children will be able to train all year round in school’s tennis dome
Stonyhurst College is opening the doors of its renowned tennis academy to talented young players across the Ribble Valley.
The college, near Clitheroe, is launching a new junior programme aimed at children aged from six to 16.
Starting in September, the weekend programme will allow local youngsters to train using the facilities at one of the UK’s leading independent school, without having to attend Stonyhurst.

Designed for players of all abilities, from complete beginners to those looking to develop their competitive game, the programme offers expert coaching.
Stonyhurst's Tennis Academy, recently ranked among the UK's top six school tennis programmes.
Led by experienced coach Mark Rushton, every session takes place in Stonyhurst's LTA-standard indoor Tennis Dome, providing year-round coaching whatever the weather.
Opened in 2017, the Tennis Dome features two Grand Slam-standard courts that impressed Judy Murray during a visit to Stonyhurst.
Judy Murray said: “To have two courts in an indoor dome allows you to play all year round. The kids are very lucky to have the opportunity to train here.”
Coaching will be delivered in small groups of no more than ten players, with ability-based groups across both courts to ensure every child receives individual attention, tailored feedback and the opportunity to progress at their own pace.
Sessions will take place on Saturday afternoons (4.30pm–6.30pm) and Sunday mornings (10.30am–12.30pm.
David Shaw, director of tennis at Stonyhurst, said: “We are delighted to be opening our junior tennis coaching programme to children from across the local community.
“Whether a child is picking up a racquet for the first time or already playing competitively, our aim is to help every player develop their skills, confidence and love of the game in a positive and supportive environment.”
