South Shore spruced up with new planting and deep clean in high street boost
South Shore’s high street has received a fresh burst of colour and cleaner, greener spaces thanks to two improvement projects delivered through Blackpool Council’s High Street Improvement Scheme.
South Shore’s high street has been given a welcome boost with a series of green and environmental improvements completed this month under Blackpool Council’s High Street Improvement Scheme.
The work forms part of a wider programme aimed at revitalising key high streets across the town, helping to create cleaner, more attractive spaces that residents and businesses can take pride in.
The latest improvements focus on the Waterloo Road and Lytham Road area, where extensive new planting and deep cleaning have been carried out to enhance the look and feel of the neighbourhood.
The goal is to bring fresh life to public spaces, encourage footfall and support a stronger sense of civic pride within the local community.

NatureScape North West CIC, a local community interest company specialising in nature-inspired design, has led the area’s green transformation.
The team has introduced hardy coastal plants around the roundabout, alongside new planters and hedgerows that will help create more inviting streets.
The planting scheme has been carefully chosen to withstand the seaside climate while boosting biodiversity, supporting local wildlife and improving wellbeing for those who live and work nearby.
Alongside the planting project, HLS Cleaning was commissioned to carry out a deep clean of streets surrounding Waterloo Road and Lytham Road.
The work included thorough pavement cleaning and improvements to the overall appearance of the streetscape, helping shopfronts and walkways look brighter and better maintained.
Both projects have been funded through the government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (SPF), which supports community-led regeneration and improvements to local high streets.

Cllr Mark Smith, Blackpool Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Built Environment, said: “This scheme is about more than just plants and pavements, it’s about pride.
“South Shore has a fantastic community and a thriving group of local businesses. By investing in cleaner streets and greener spaces, we’re helping to create a high street that people feel good about visiting, shopping in, and being part of.”
The South Shore improvements form part of the wider Blackpool High Street Improvement Programme, which aims to support businesses, enhance local appearance and strengthen community identity across the town.
