Singer Kevin Simm stays in The Voice

The former Liberty X star was one of three acts chosen by coach Ricky Wilson, from the Kaiser Chiefs, to stay in the competition.

He performed Wings by Birdy on tonight’s episode as he went against seven fellow contestants in the knockout round.

Kevin, who grew up in Leyland and now lives in Whittle-le-Woods, will now go through to the next stage of the programme.

Afterwards, he said: “Apart from my wedding day and the birth of my two kids, this is the best night I’ve ever had.”

He was touted as one of the favourites to win the show after impressing the celebrity coaches in his audition, when all four turned their chairs to show they liked what they heard.

But last week viewers saw his coach Paloma Faith choose fellow contestant Faith Nelson over him.

Kevin, 35, was “stolen” by coach Ricky Wilson - reportedly following a deal made before the show - and he stayed in the competition.

Kevin was previously a member of pop group Liberty X, which was formed from the runners-up on TV talent show Popstars in 2001.

Liberty X topped the UK singles chart with Just A Little in 2002 and a year later the song won a Brit award for best British single.
