Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith had wished the finalists good luck ahead of the series finale while pointedly avoiding her faux pas from last year.

Making a reference to the day of the Bake Off final in 2017, where she accidentally tweeted the name of the winner hours before it aired, Leith tweeted: "Good luck to all the bakers tonight in the @BritishBakeOff FINAL.

"All fantastic bakers and worthy winners. That is all I am going to say ... for now!!!"

The final episode saw the trio tackle signature, technical and showstopper challenges in their bids to be named winner.

For the final signature challenge the bakers were tasked with making six iced filled doughnuts and six iced ring doughnuts.

Rahul told judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith: "I never had a doughnut in my life before this challenge."

Ruby's raspberry and cardamom ring doughnuts were described as "too sweet, too sticky" by Leith for her white chocolate glaze.

Rahul's orange ring doughnuts were "under-proved" according to Hollywood but the judges enjoyed his doughnuts filled with mango creme patissiere, with Hollywood saying they were like "a mango bomb".

For the final showstopper challenge the bakers were tasked with creating a landscape dessert, which host Sandi Toksvig said should be "a delight for the senses, visually stunning and a taste sensation".

Ruby created a magical landscape featuring a choux mountain, shortbread hills and passionfruit cake, as well as unicorns.

Kim-Joy built the Lost City Of Atlantis made of ginger cake and biscuit with a salted caramel-filled well and fondant seahorses.

Rahul created an edible rock garden with buttercream plants, cardamom-filled choux rocks and a chocolate cake and lemon cake.

A glass storage jar on Rahul's work bench smashed because of the heat in the tent, meaning he has to throw away anything that might have shards of glass, and start the challenge again.
