Sheltered housing fire

Firefighters were called to a small blaze at sheltered accommodation in Preston in the early hours of today.

The alarm was raised at Howard Brook House in Ripon Terrace, off New Hall Lane, after an electrical consumer unit caught fire.

Damage was restricted to the unit, with smoke affecting just one corridor.

“None of the flats were affected and no-one had to be evacuated,” said a fire brigade spokesman.
