It is music to the ears of Charnock Richard residents, who campaigned to see the village served by a bus link after Stagecoach announced it was cutting the route.

The 347 will now follow a revised route via Charnock Richard and The Eaves Green Road, Collingwood Road and Walgarth Drive areas of Chorley, between Chorley and Eccleston. However it will not serve Euxton.

It comes after furious residents, who said they were losing a “lifeline“, petitioned Lancashire County Council to reroute the 347.

LCC stepped up and the subsidised service, which commenced on February 7 and is run by Holmeswood Coaches, now covers Southport, Churchtown, Eccleston, Heskin, Charnock Richard and Chorley.

Councillor Alan Whittaker said: “At at strike Charnock Richard is now back on the main bus route. It also means that people can get on the bus at Charnock Richard and get off at Southport on a summer day so it is winning all round. However that leaves Croston out on a bit of a limb so Stagecoach is diverting another bus route, the 113 to connect Croston. Residents from Croston can’t get to Chorley unless they go to Leyland first though so we are trying to get Chorley Council to subsidise a bus service on an predicable basis, say on Tuesdays and Fridays, that will run directly from Croston to Chorley.”

Chorley Council is temporarily funding the 7C service around the urban core of Chorley - from Chorley Interchange to the Carr Lane/A6 junction via Pall Mall, Harrison Road, Pilling Lane, Carr Lane, Kirkstall Road and Melrose Way. The 7C is currently a free service.

Stagecoach has also enhanced its 8/8A to cover Adlington.
