Scouts achieve their biggest honour yet

Andrew Corrie, the North West Regional Commissioner, presented 35 youngsters, aged 13 and 14, with the Chief Scouts Gold Awards certificates at the ceremony at Hutton Police Headquarters.

This accolade is the most senior in the Scout Section of the movement and some of these young people will have already moved up into the Explorer Scouts, for those between the ages of 14 and 18.

Every Scout has to undertake a pre-set number of challenges from promise, outdoors, adventure, expeditions, community service, creativity, fitness and international and global awareness.

In addition they have to complete three personally-designed challenges consisting of adventure, commitment and leadership.

Andrew Corrie said: “I wish to congratulate these youngsters in achieving the highest award in the Scout Section. I trust they will all go onto Explorer Scouts and get their Diamond and Platinum Awards before moving into Scout Network and going for the ultimate Queens Scout Award and Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award.”
