Schools close following water supply issues in Lostock Hall

Schools have had to turn away their students today, March 24, following water supply issues in Lostock Hall and the surrounding area.

And dozens of families in Preston are still left without water this morning due to a burst pipe at Walton Green.

A statement from Lostock Hall Academy read: "Due to unforeseen water supply issues in the Lostock Hall area school currently has no water and therefore will be closed for health and safety reasons.

"Students must stay at home and login to Synergy for lessons."

And a message sent out at 8 am by Lostock Hall Community Primary School said: "I am afraid we are going to have to close school today as we still have no water.

"Children will be able to access remote learning today. Please log on to their Year Group Blogs and find today's work. Staff are currently uploading tasks.

"I am hopeful that United Utilities will be able to fix the problem and school will re-open tomorrow as usual.

"I am sorry once again for this as I am disappointed that we have had to make this decision. Thank you for understanding."

The Post understands that Our Lady and St Gerard's has also closed for the day due to water supply issues.

Moor Hey school has also confirmed it is closed today.

Homes have been without water since around 4.30am, with most of those affected in the PR1, PR4 and PR5 areas and are experiencing poor pressure and others reported having no water at all.

Among the areas affected are Bamber Bridge, Lostock Hall and Walton-le-Dale.

United Utilities say the lack of water is due to a burst pipe in Walton Green, where leakage engineers are now on site to carry out repairs.

It has not yet provided an estimated time for when supplies will resume.

A United Utilities spokesman said: "Our inspector has attended to a burst water main in Walton Green and has confirmed this to be the cause of some homes having no water or poor pressure today.

"A team of engineers have arrived at Walton Green and have started work on repairing the burst water main.
