Scaffolding collapses at Preston cycle shop and crashes into road
Scaffolding collapsed at a cycle shop in Preston yesterday (Sunday, March 28), narrowly missing traffic as it crashed into a busy city road.
The 30ft scaffold at Preston Cycles in Water Lane collapsed at 3.20pm, forcing traffic to a dramatic stop at the Fylde Road junction.
Fortunately, there are no reports of pedestrians or motorists being injured.
Police attended and directed traffic whilst workers began re-erecting the scaffold.
Preston City Council said its building control team did not attend the incident as it had not issued the scaffold licence.
The Health and Safety Executive, which oversees workplace health and safety, said it is "aware of the incident and making enquiries.”
The scaffolding company did not reply to a request for comment, whilst Preston Cycles could not be reached.
