Road near Deepdale stadium closed

A sheet of cladding was threatening to fly off the roof yesterday.

Firefighters removed the cladding but on investigating the state of the roof today they found that it had deteriorated.

Bill Shankly Crescent will now be closed until the wind speed has reduced and the metal sheeting has been made secure.

A Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We were called to Preston North End at 3.24pm yesterday.

"Due to the high winds, a piece of sheet metal cladding had come loose and was flapping in the wind.

"Firefighters from Preston, Chorley and Bamber Bridge used an aerial ladder platform and the specialist equipment carried by our Urban Search and Rescue team to remove part of the cladding and make the structure safe.

"At 1.14pm today, two fire engines and the aerial ladder platform from Preston were called to back to the stadium.

"After inspecting the roof, firefighters found that the condition of the cladding on top of the stadium roof has deteriorated.

"Due to the wind conditions, it has been too windy for our aerial ladder platform to be used at the scene and as a result, Bill Shankly Crescent will be closed until the wind speed has reduced and the metal sheeting has been made secure."
