The A674 Finnington Lane near Hoghton had to be shut in both directions while emergency services dealt with the incident.

The alarm was raised just before 7am after reports that a van had collided with a car towing a caravan.

One person was reported to be trapped in the van which was on its side near to junction 3 of the M65. Fire crews were called to free him.

Police say there were only minor injuries. All three vehicles were badly damaged.

The road links the main Hoghton to Feniscowles road with the M65 and the Chorley area.

Officers urged drivers to avoid the area if at all possible. They also advised motorists to use the alternative A675 between Riley Green and the motorway.
