Ribble Valley’s MP has welcomed measures to support farmers and communities in the region but has vowed to campaign for more help
Maya Ellis says Rural Britain has an enormous contribution to make to future growth.
The Budget includes a suspension of tariffs on kerosene heating oil from November 26, until the end of 2028 and fertiliser until December 31, next year.
There will also be an extension to the temporary 3.7p-per-litre red diesel duty cut for another six months, along with the proportional reduction in red diesel duty resulting from the five pence cut to the main fuel duty rate.

She has also welcomed the government’s commitment to develop new guidance on rural proofing for strategic authorities in England, due to be published in early 2027.
She said rural proofing would help ensure that decisions taken by strategic authorities properly reflect rural geography, infrastructure, public services, businesses and local economies.
Ms Ellis said: “I’m really pleased that the Budget has recognised the enormous contribution rural communities make to future growth.
“I’ve worked closely with farmers in Ribble Valley constituency, so I’m reassured this Labour government is listening following this week’s announcement.
“These short-term interventions are welcome but, as always, there’s lots more to do and I know we could go further.
“I’ll continue lobbying for more direct support for farmers who face significant pressures on their operating costs and profitability.
“I welcome the commitment within the Budget red book to developing new guidance for rural proofing, which will ensure any future devolution in rural areas understands the rural deficit.”
