Plans to develop Bamber Bridge farmland into a housing estate will soon be back on the agenda.

Persimmon Homes saw a scheme for 283 houses on a 10ha plot off Brindle Road thrown out in 2014. Councillors unanimously agreed that the proposal, in the apex of the M6 and M61 motorways, went against policies on noise, car parking, density, character and appearance. Local campaigners were pleased, having raised the same concerns.

After revised plans - promised for 2015 - never materialised, Persimmon Homes has now said a scheme for fewer homes on the land will be issued “shortly”.

Mark Cook, managing director for Persimmon Homes Lancashire, said: “We are working on a revised planning application to deliver 220 new homes at Brindle Road which we believe addresses the concerns previously raised in our 2014 application.

“We are still interested in developing the site, and hope to return shortly with plans that will satisfy all the requirements of the planners and Environment Health Officer.

“The development would provide much needed housing for local people, including 65 affordable homes, along with public open spaces and a children’s play area.”
