Police say they are aware of an alleged incident at the event at midday on Sunday.

Shocked folk have been talking about it on social media.

One person posted: “At Elaine’s car boot Chorley, this impatient man leaving the car boot early and was driving between the carbooters beeping his horn aggressively telling a old guy to shift . He moved out of the way walking slowly after all he had a walking stick. The old guy wasn’t quite out of the way and the bloke drove past him and hit him with the car mirror. An old lady, I’m led to believe she was his wife started, shouted at him through his car window, he opened his car door and pushed over the elderly lady (who must of been 70ish ) into one of the stalls , smashing the stall holder’s table in half .”

The car boot sale has been run by Elaine Hyman for a quarter of a century.

Elaine, 69, who lives in Bury, said: “I only saw it on Facebook on the Monday.

“Nobody said anything to me. I was there on the day - not even my staff saw it.

“If I’d been there I would have moved the stall back a little bit.

“I sent her (the woman) something on Facebook and apologised.

“I said if I’d known something about it, I would have done something.

“I wish she had approached me. I could have sorted it out.”

She continued: “Really it’s the first time in 25 years I’ve had anything like this happen.

“It’s the most popular car boot in the area.

“It’s a disgrace, utter disgrace.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police said: “We’re aware of an allegation of nuisance, but no formal complaint has been made to us.”
