Remembrance services planned across Wyre

November 11 Remembrance Day service at the Barton, Bilsborrow and Myerscough War Memorial, Retired Colonel John Bird addresses a crowd of some 300 people who came to pay tribute.

Garstang, Preesall, Barton, Billsborrow and Myerscough will all hold separate services all concluding with the laying of the wreaths.

And Allan Townsend, a member of Garstang and District Lions, says these events are as important as they have ever been.

He said: “These services are very important because we suffered such a terrible loss across both the First World War and the Second World War. We’re expecting a really good turnout and it should a really good service,”

The services for Barton, Bilsborrow and Myerscough will take place on Wednesday, November 11 with anyone wishing to attend asked to meet at 10.20am for a ceremony at the war memorial in Bilsborrow. Wyre councillor Peter Murphy will attend the service and lay the council’s wreath.

Garstang’s service will be held on Sunday, November 8. There will first be a meeting at Garstang Business Centre car park at 10am followed by a parade to St Thomas’ Church at 10.30am followed by a ceremony at the war memorial. The mayor of Wyre, councillor Tom Balmain will attend the service and lay the council’s wreath.

Preesall’s service will also take place on that Sunday, first meeting at Lancaster Road at 1.45pm for a ceremony at the war memorial. This will be followed by a service at St Oswald’s Church at 2.30pm. Councillor Balmain will once again attend and lay the council’s wreath.
