It resembles Joesph's technicolour dreamcoat but two Wyre quilt-makers have impressed more than just 11 brothers.

The two quilts took six months each to make for the pair, who own Quilter’s Quarters on Derby Road in Longridge, and 53-year-old Carole says it was “a great honour” to win the award.

“I started making quilts when I took a class in Garstang more than 20 years ago,” she said. “From there I opened the shop and it’s been a great success ever since. To be honest I’m not sure where the ideas for the quilts come from, we just get them and make them!

The ‘Starburst’ quilt was awarded first place in the bed quilt category, the award for long arm quilting and the overall champion of the show. ‘Prism of Light’ was awarded third in the bed quilt category, the award for piecing and the award for traditional patchwork.

Emma long arm quilts professionally and ‘Starburst’ was the first quilt she had quilted for her mum. It is also the first quilt she has achieved an award for long arm quilting with and says that makes it all the more special that it was pieced by her mum.

“It was a real honour to win the award with my daughter,” said Carole. “The quilts are at home and probably won’t be used on beds but more for decoration. The trophies are in pride of place in the shop in Longridge.

“I’m sure we will make some more and enter other competitions but for now we’re enjoying this little success.”
