Pubs hold their own First Dates

Valentine's Day will be extra special at two Preston pubs this year - with some inspiration from a realtiy TV show.

The Sitting Goose at Lower Bartle and The Hunters in Walton-le-Dale will be hosting their own version of the Channel 4 programme First Dates, where strangers are treated to a blind date meal.

Like on the television show, the diners will be matched beforehand based on their age, interests and what they find attractive.

“It’s a quirky idea, a bit of a giggle”, said Tom Lifter, marketing manager for the pub group.

He added: “It’s something different I’ve not heard of it anywhere else and we’ve had a really good response so far.

“There’s a real mix of people applying. We’ve had slightly more girls applying than lads, but we’re taking applications until the end of Monday.

“The ages range is from 19 to the oldest at 55.”

The application form includes questions on whether the person drinks, smokes, and has children.

It also asks what they are looking for from a relationship, what the main feature they look for in a partner is, and they are asked to tick three out of 15 boxes of interests such as cooking or shopping.

The lucky couples chosen - one per pub - will be treated to a four-course meal with champagne.

Tom added: “Staff are looking forward to doing it, and we’re hopeful that we’re going to get a good match.

“We’ll be doing a video with them during and after, just like on the TV show, so we’ll find out how it’s gone.”
