Bamber Bridge Labour Councillor Caleb Tomlison was suspended in June after a video of him swearing at doormen at the Stanley Arms Pub in Preston was exposed.

He has been sitting as an Independent since, after Labour party bosses watched him swearing, pushing one of the doormen and threatening to close the premises down – even though he had no jurisdiction.

At the time he said it was a “silly, silly mistake” to mention he was a councillor, but claimed the doormen were being rude to his partner.

He added: “I know I lost my temper and I knew I was being filmed but I continued as, unfortunately, I get a red mist sometimes, but I only ever do it when I feel it’s justified.”

Coun Paul Foster, leader of the Labour group said: “Coun Caleb Tomlinson remains an Independent on the Council as we await the report from the Monitoring Officer to Standards Committee which will look into whether his actions brought the Council disrepute.

“Following this, the National Executive Committee will have to make a decision on whether Caleb should be allowed back into the Labour Party as he is currently suspended at a national level.

“Only if they make a decision to allow Caleb to rejoin then he will formally be part of Labour Group at South Ribble.”
