A spokesperson for Warburtons has issued an update after a huge blaze broke out at the bread factory in Burnley on Monday.

12 fire engines and two aerial ladder platforms were then dispatched to the area.

Providing an update this evening a spokesperson for Warburtons said that the fire has been since been contained to one side of the building and that production has stopped.

They said: “We can confirm there has been a fire at our Burnley bakery. Thankfully, everyone at site is safe and we are grateful for the hard work of the local fire service who remain on site today.

“The fire is now under control and has been contained to one side of the building.”

They added: “When the site is safe, a full investigation will take place to determine the cause, and to assess the full extent of the damage.

“We bake a range of hot plate products at Burnley, production has obviously stopped on site, and we are currently looking at upweighting production at our other 11 bakeries to minimise impact on supply.”

A spokesperson for Lancashire Police confirmed that the fire was not thought to be suspicious.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation and the extent of damage to the building is not yet known.
