The Q&A session lasted for an hour from 6pm to 7pm, with a variety of questions thrown their way.

Elaine Wilson said: "I've the biggest respect for you all, it takes a special person to do your jobs, thank you for your protection & keep safe!"

Facebook user Vicky Newman was concerned about the use of self defence when an intruder breaks into your home.

Preston Police replied: "In the first instance you need to call 999, then there are common law powers and powers relating to reasonable force which allow you to protect yourself and property."

Another user, Christian Ellis, asked what to do if another incident like the one at Tesco Leyland last week, where a man smashed the store's window panels.

Preston Police said: "It was a really frightening incident for those who observed it but even though there are common law powers in place to protect you, in a situation like that you are best to ring 999 as happened on the day."

Some of the questions were not relating to police matters. Katrina Bilboa said: "A not so serious question, is the bald headed officer in the photo single?"

Unfortunately for Katrina, Preston Police replied with: "Engaged, sorry!"
