Preston Eid dinner raises £12,000 for Rosemere Cancer Foundation
The annual fundraising event, hosted by Royal Preston Hospital consultant Professor Mohammed Munavvar, will help support new equipment for lung cancer diagnosis.
A formal Eid dinner in Preston has raised almost £12,000 for Rosemere Cancer Foundation.

The annual event is organised and hosted by Professor Mohammed Munavvar, a consultant chest physician and interventional pulmonologist at Royal Preston Hospital.
Held at Preston’s Imperial Banqueting Suite, the ticketed dinner was attended by 200 guests.
They included local councillors, Mayoress of Preston Nweeda Khan, Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust colleagues, executive officers and governors, as well as family and friends.
Guests also included a delegation from Preston’s Slow Spokes Cycling Club, which is planning a fundraising ride to mark Rosemere Cancer Foundation’s 30th birthday next year.
Another longstanding supporter of the charity, Preston tile, bathroom and kitchen firm Roccia, took a table for staff to enjoy the evening, as did the team from Issa Medical Centre.
During the event, Professor Munavvar spoke to guests about a project he is currently working on with Rosemere Cancer Foundation.
The charity has agreed to fund one of the most advanced endoscopic tools available for real-time, ultrasound-guided examinations and procedures within the bronchial tree.
The scope will enable earlier, faster and more accurate diagnosis of lung conditions, including lung cancer, as it can access parts of the lung that current conventional scopes often fail to reach.
There were also presentations by consultant clinical oncologist Professor Alison Birtle, who combines work at Rosemere Cancer Centre with research and honorary teaching posts at both the University of Manchester and University of Central Lancashire, and Dan Hill, chief officer of Rosemere Cancer Foundation and the trust’s head of charities.
The dinner also featured an auction and bazaar, with stalls selling artwork, crafts, clothing and sweets.
Fees from stallholders and auction pledges were added to ticket sales to create the dinner’s Rosemere donation.
Dan Hill said: “As always, Professor Munavvar’s dinner was a great event. Not only was it a lovely way to spend the evening, it was also hugely successful in helping to raise funds for our projects, including the scope project.
“We are very grateful to Professor Munavvar for championing us, to everyone who helped him organise the dinner, including Kulsoom Mohammed, who co-ordinated the stalls for the bazaar, and to everyone who attended.”
