A spokesperson for Electricity North West said the work was part of an ongoing £2 billion investment into the area.

“They said: “A lot of the investment and maintenance we do happens in the background and customers often wouldn't know about it, however, sometimes we do have to turn people’s power off so engineers can work on the network safely.

“The work in Leyland, part of our ongoing £2bn investment programme, will help provide extra capacity on the network, enabling more people to take up electric vehicles and install solar panels in the local area.”

They added: “When we need a planned power cut, we’ll give at least 10 days’ notice and those affected will have received a letter with all the necessary details.

“As always, our teams are on hand 24/7 365 days a year and should anybody ever need any more information during a power cut, whether planned or not, they can follow Electricity North West on Twitter or Facebook for updates, or call us free on 105.”
