The new restrictions come into force across the county from midnight tonight, with more than 1,100 pubs at risk of closing unless they can repurpose themselves as 'restaurants' serving 'substantial meals'.

Health secretary Matt Hancock said: "An unrelenting rise in cases in Lancashire means we must act now, and we have worked intensively with local leaders to agree on additional restrictions.

"Without them, we risk the health of your loved ones, your most vulnerable, and your local NHS services. Now is the time to play your part, and we will make sure you are supported."

But unlike the first lockdown in the spring, the new restrictions will allow gyms, leisure centres, hair salons and beauty parlours to stay open.

Below is the full list of venues and businesses which will need to close under Lancashire's Tier 3 (Very High) lockdown, and those that are permitted to stay open.

Businesses that must close from midnight tonight (00.01 on Saturday, October 17):

Pubs and bars must close, except those that operate as if they were a restaurant - which means serving substantial meals, like a main lunchtime or evening meal; they may only serve alcohol as part of such a meal. Those that must close from Monday (October 19):

- Bookmakers and betting shops (Around 100 betting shops will close across Lancashire)

- Casinos

- Adult gaming centres, including bingo halls

- Children's soft play centres

- Car boot sales

Businesses and venues that can stay open:

- Schools, colleges and universities

- Shops, including non-essential retailers, can stay open

- Hair salons, barbers and beauty parlours

- Gyms and leisure centres - In Lancashire, gyms and leisure centres can stay open, unlike other areas under Tier 3 lockdown, including Liverpool.

- Takeaways - These are required to close between 10pm and 5am, but can continue to offer delivery service, click-and-collect or drive-through after curfew.

- Motorway services - These do not need to close at 10pm, but must not serve alcohol after that time.

- Parks and public spaces (But people must not socialise in a group of more than 6 in any outdoor public space such as parks, beaches and the countryside).

- Places of worship (subject to social contact restrictions)
