South Ribble's Jubilee Gardens extra care apartments are filling up - but you can still apply for one
A new ‘extra care’ complex in Leyland is expected to be full by the summer, the council that built it has said.
Around a third of the apartments at the Jubilee Gardens development are now occupied, a meeting of South Ribble Borough Council’s cabinet was told.
The £20.5m scheme - on West Paddock, alongside the local authority’s headquarters - is made up of 75 flats whose occupants each have their own personal living space and front door. but with on-site support on hand and any tailored packages of care they may need.

Open to the over-55s - but with over-60s given priority - the facility welcomed its first residents back in October. It is now on course to be fully occupied within the next six months as part of a phased plan to fill the dwellings, which are available for affordable rent and come with a mix of one and two bedrooms.
The site features communal spaces and services including a hair salon and community cafe.
Speaking to the Local Democracy Reporting Service about Jubilee Gardens’ progress, South Ribble Borough Council leader Matthew Tomlinson said: “The approach for the accommodation was to deliver occupancy over 12 months - and I’m happy to say that it is a third full and we are on track to be at full occupancy by the summer.
“We had hundreds of applications for the apartments - and the approach is phased to ensure we deliver effective support to applicants working with partners to assess their care needs and carrying out the relevant steps needed to finalise the package ready for them to move into their new home.
“Already there is a strong community at Jubilee Gardens and I look forward to it being at full capacity in the summer.”
Applications are still being taken for apartments - and a waiting list will be maintained when there are none currently available.
The scheme is open to those who require assistance with daily living tasks or their personal care, as well as people who remain relatively independent, but would benefit from a safer and more supportive environment for a range of reasons.
Applicants will be prioritised based on the strength of the connection they can demonstrate to the South Ribble council area.
