How some Preston pensioners can get £100 to help with essential bills and the cost-of-living this winter

The city council has announced a package of targeted support.

Vulnerable pensioners in Preston can get help with their bills this winter - in the form of a £100 payment from Preston City Council.

The support is available to pension-age residents who currently receive council tax support, but are not getting Pension Credit from the government - and who did not receive a corresponding £200 assistance package from the authority in 2024/25.

The aim is to ease the cost of living and provide eligible households with a one-off payout that can contribute towards food, fuel and other essential costs during the winter months.

Coun Peter Kelly, cabinet member for communities at Preston City Council, said:

"We know that many pensioners continue to face difficult choices when it comes to managing household budgets, particularly during the winter. This funding is designed to provide practical support to residents who may be struggling with the cost of food and fuel.

"We would encourage anyone who thinks they may be eligible to apply and make use of the support available."

Applications can be made online through a simple application form. Family members, friends or carers can also apply on behalf of an eligible pensioner, although any payment awarded must be made into an account belonging to the applicant.
