Extra care housing enables residents to draw on care and support when they need it, while also maintaining some independence. This is often not possible within traditional residential

care environments.

Councillor Mick Titherington Cabinet member for Health, Wellbeing and Leisure said: “I am really pleased we have agreed a site for the extra care scheme taking us a step closer to

having a much needed one in South Ribble.

"The concept behind these schemes is to provide the extra care and support required for older residents and at the same time allowing them to live independent lives as part of the local

community”.

This report follows on from the decision in January 2020 for South Ribble Borough Council to develop , own and manage its own extra care scheme.
