Conservative leadership election: Katherine Fletcher, MP for South Ribble, confirms whether she backs Sunak or Truss for PM

Yesterday (August 15), Katherine Fletcher MP announced that she is supporting Liz Truss to be the next leader of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

Ms Fletcher’s team says she has spoken with all of the candidates in this leadership race, pressing them about the issues that really matter to local communities in South Ribble.

However they added that Ms Fletcher was particularly impressed by Ms Truss’ proven track record on delivering for the British people at home and abroad, and her experience across government departments including, Education, the Treasury, and the Foreign Office.

Katherine Fletcher MP said: “I met with Liz Truss again this week to discuss her plans to help grow small businesses, which as we know, are the lifeblood of our economy in South Lancashire. I also asked her about her plans to connect higher education research with businesses to support innovation and growth.

“Whilst both leadership candidates are exceptionally talented, my discussion with Liz led me to conclude that she is the best choice to deliver on these areas and on the promises we made in 2019 to boost growth around the country and spread prosperity in areas that had previously missed out.

“I am genuinely excited about Liz’s ideas for the future of the UK, and I think she has a real capacity to unite our party and our country, and deliver for the communities of South Ribble, Lancashire and the whole of the United Kingdom.”
