All-female team elected to represent Preston, Chorley and Leyland in UK Youth Parliament

Lancashire certainly has a gender pay gap - but in one area at least, young women are getting into the spotlight.

More than 3,000 young people voted in the ballot, between February and March this year, to select five representatives. In Preston Megan Ginley was elected and Millie Edwards will represent Chorley, South Ribble and West Lancashire.

Three other county seats also went to girls.

Debbie Duffell, of Lancashire County Council, said: “I’m so impressed with the commitment that the young people have showed, both to the democratic process and to supporting their communities. This is a demonstration of the positive contribution young people make.”

Other elected representatives include:

• Lily Cooper will represent Lancaster, Fylde and Wyre

• Kelsey Hewitt will represent Burnley and Pendle

• Ambar Siddique will represent Hyndburn, Ribble Valley and Rossendale

• Evie Smith was elected by the Children in Care Council and the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities forum.
