The 25-year-old, from Langdale Road, Leyland, was crowned Miss Plus Size UK runner-up, after competing against women from all over the world in the Miss Plus Size International Finals.

On the back of her success, size 20 Sophie has been performing with a national burlesque dance troop called Curvelesque, and has been awarded a contract with Pose Plus models agency in London.

“I’ve done radio interviews and magazine shoots,” she said. “It’s little odd jobs, but it’s fun. I felt like people judged me before but it’s important to have confidence and love yourself.”

Sophie, who has a daughter and step-son, is preparing to walk down the aisle next year, so is also looking forward to modelling for a plus-size bridal range, and hopefully attending this year’s Curvy Convention catwalk show in London.

She’s also modelled clothes from reality TV star Gemma Collins’s line.

Sophie, a care worker who also runs a first aid training business, added: “It’s something a bit different from day-to-day life. I was really surprised when I made it to the Miss Plus finals, and it’s opened up a lot of doors.

“I’ve been used to always being the big girl, but it was such a positive experience and I felt really good about myself.”

Sophie, who enjoys swimming, dancing and going to the gym to keep fit, admitted she ‘over indulges’ occasionally, but said: “I’m not one of those people who will just get bigger and bigger. I have my limits, and this is the size I feel most comfortable at.”
