Play your part in transforming Preston's cycle paths

The University of Central Lancashire is asking for views on plans to transform public space in and around its campus as part of its £200m masterplan.

In partnership with Lancashire County Council, the university is hosting the second in a series of workshops with different user groups to help shape the highway and public realm design for the proposed campus transformation.

The emerging designs for the proposed ‘street scene’ look to build on this principle to create an attractive and inviting environment for local residents, students and visitors while improving connections with the city centre.

At the workshop, cyclists will be able to view outline design plans and will be encouraged to give feedback on the proposed street scene improvements.

A spokesman for the university said: “A core principle of our Masterplan is to integrate our campus seamlessly with the rest of the city, and these consultations are key to creating a campus which is safe and accessible for all.

“This workshop is intended to help us improve the cycle network resulting in better connectivity to the city centre and cycle travel across campus. This will not only benefit those who cycle already, but also offer an attractive alternative for those who usually travel by car.”

Feedback from the workshops will be used to create a draft plan for a variety of user groups to consider and approve, before construction work for the new urban space begins in late 2017.

The cycle workshop will take place on June 23 from 4.30pm until 6.30pm in room 011 of UCLan’s Vernon Building on Vernon Street.
