Fylde Council approved the plans last week on October 9. The application sought permission to demolish the existing car wash and workshop, located at Lower Lane Service Station on Preston New Road, and build a new petrol station.

185 sq m of retail space will accompany the filling station, along with a canopy to cover the forecourt, a jet-wash bay and additional parking.

The plans, which were originally lodged in 2025, were met with widespread objection by residents in the area. Freckleton Parish Council rejected the plans on a number of occasions, condemning them as ‘neither necessary nor beneficial.’

The petrol station will only be permitted to open between 7am and 11pm Monday to Saturday and between 8am and 10pm on Sundays and Bank Holidays. The jet wash will only be open between 8am and 6pm to help avoid noise complaints.

Some of the other imposed conditions include ensuring groundwater is appropriately drained and that no trees and vegetation is harmed during bird nesting seasons.

Concerns about road safety were also addressed by the planning officer, who decided to impose a one-way traffic system, with vehicles entering from the A584 and exiting onto Lower Lane, to prevent drivers turning right across oncoming traffic on Preston New Road.

Construction on the plans can now begin. There is no current information about who will run the station, or which business will run the retail space.
