Wigan pays silent tribute to Covid victim paramedic on his final journey

A former Wigan paramedic who died with Covid has been given a guard of honour as he took his final journey.

Ambulance staff turned out in force and their emergency vehicles had their blue lights flashing as Peter Millington s cortege passed through the 999 station on Robin Park Road on its way to his funeral.

Members of the public joined NHS staff to stand in silent tribute to the Gidlow 58-year-old who died earlier this month after seven weeks battling coronavirus.

Earlier the procession, led by an ambulance response car, had left his home and also passed by Wigan Infirmary and its illuminated tree of hope where health workers and the public again paid their tributes.

A funeral service for close family and friends was then held at Wigan Crematorium.

Peter is survived by his mother Betty, fiancée Lynn, children Alex and Sophie and grandchildren Primrose and Reuben.

He had dedicated more than three decades of service to the North West Ambulance Service (NWAS), both as a paramedic and operational trainer, making a difference to countless lives of patients and families.

In more recent years he used his passion for IT as an NWAS capacity manager based initially at Emergency Operations Centre in Broughton, Lancashire and most recently at Greater Manchester’s Regional Operations Control Centre.
